We are pleased to offer many blades with beautiful patterned steel – referred to as “Damascus” since the 19th century. Oddly, the origin of the name is not because it was invented or manufactured in Damascus (Syria), but more as a tribute to the skill of Damascus sword makers – greatly admired and coveted by Europeans – to make something both artistic and functional. This type of steel manufacturing actually originated in India and the steel was exported across trade routes into the Mediterranean.
In very simple terms, these blades are made from a combination of different steels with different hardness qualities (forged together using a few specific methods) and then etched with an acid to produce a blade that holds a great edge and looks spectacular! We have many knives and a few select swords made with this technique.
Visit us at any event to see these in person!
